Chapter 12

Millie was exhausted, and not because she’d spent the night being worked over by her lusty new lover. No. For the first time in her life, she had gone and fallen into bed with a man of his word. The minute their breathing slowed, Ty had rolled off the edge of the mattress and began stalking around the room, moving with the lithe grace of a panther. He’d gathered her discarded clothing and placed the pile on the end of the bed before disappearing into the attached bath.

He’d returned as promised, plucked up the jeans she’d peeled him out of earlier that evening, and thrust his long legs into the tangled denim. “Come on. I’ll take you home.”

But it didn’t matter if she slept in her own bed or not; the man was responsible for the dark circles under her eyes. She’d tossed and turned all night. Thoughts of Ty and their romp in bed chased her through her morning run. She’d even dressed for him. Slim cigarette pants and a crisp, white shirt. She’d slicked her mouth with her favorite lipstick, Rapscallion Red, and then left her house, determined to make him pay for her lack of sleep.

Thirty minutes later, she breezed through the door of the Warrior Center with her tote swinging from the crook of her elbow and enough swagger to do a sailor proud. She nodded to a couple of students hauling massive equipment duffels, floated a flirty smile at one of Danny’s assistant coaches as he wandered past with his phone pressed to his ear, and waved to the athletics editor of the Warrior Weekly. Without breaking stride, she hooked a sharp right into Kate’s office.

“I’m thinking we should hit the mall tonight,” she announced. “I have need for new lingerie.”

“I’m sorry, think I have a colonic scheduled this evening,” Kate replied without missing a beat.

Millie stopped short when she spotted the hot hunk of man sprawled in the guest chair across from her best friend. The tablet perched on Ty’s knee was dark and smudged with fingerprints. He craned his neck to look back at her. The smile he wore stretched from ear to ear. “Hey, Millie.”

Not one to back down from anyone or anything, she leveled a blank stare on him. “Hello, lover.”

Kate choked on a laugh. Slapping a hand to her chest, she threw her head back and let loose. “Wow. Okay, well, I guess I don’t have to ask what you kids did last night.”

“We played Monopoly.” Millie strolled the rest of the way into the office, hoping they couldn’t hear the thudding of her heart. “I bankrupted him with my hotels.” She smirked at Ty. “Are you in here begging for a little lunch money? Our Katie isn’t just a winner. She’s carrying cash around in those bags with the dollar signs now.”

Ty inclined his head, acknowledging the hit. “I’ve got lunch covered, thanks.” He picked up the tablet and rose to his full height, inch by spectacular inch.
